Narragansett High School Gymnasium
Gym floors marketed with mercury-containing materials years ago, are now reaching the end of their service life, and require careful removal.
Martone’s renovation of Narragansett High School’s gym began with the removal of the floor, which tested positive for mercury. Ventilation, containment, disposal and testing protocols ensured safety throughout this sensitive remediation work. The remaining project scope included removing the original concrete slab and 8-inches of sand, upgrading ventilation systems, pouring a new slab, installing the gym floor, bleachers, and back boards, and painting interior walls. Now, the gymnasium is a safe, high-performance venue that serves as source of pride for its community.
