Smith's Castle
Built in 1678, Smith’s Castle is one of the oldest houses in the state of Rhode Island.
To preserve this landmark’s use for public education, regular museum hours continued throughout Martone’s historic restoration of the structure. The project scope of work included repointing exterior foundation stonework, infilling rafters in the roof bays, removing and replacing the existing wood shingled roof, repairing and replacing exterior trim and clapboards, and the complete repairing, sanding, prepping, and repainting of exterior clapboards, casements, and trim. Finally, the team fabricated, milled, and installed a new door to match original species and detailed profiles.
