Sylvanus Brown House at Slater Mill
Named after the artisan who lived here from 1784 to 1824, this structure is designated a historic landmark for its value in illustrating America’s industrial heritage.
Part of the historic complex famous for bringing water power to the first cotton mill in America, this restoration builds on Martone’s previous work at Slater Mill. It required masonry and repointing of the chimney, restoring and repairing existing clapboard, replacing rotting wood, and restoring and re-glazing windows – plus, installing a new wood shingled roof to match the existing profile, even replicating where wood shingles shrunk over the years.
