Martone Inc. was pleased to receive the Conservation Award from the Providence Preservation Society for our team’s “meticulous exterior restoration employing high-quality materials and procedures” at the Old State House on 150 Benefit St in Providence, RI.
Judges noted that the team faithfully restored several exterior materials and design elements of the 1762 Georgian-style civic building. A signature feature of the property, the bell tower, was made functional again with the replication of a new bell wheel out of oak, and the bell was heard for the first time in years at the ribbon cutting. And, the success of the project elevates the State Historic Preservation Office as an exemplar of materials conservation and preservation in Rhode Island.
Mike Martone accepted the award on behalf of the team at an Awards celebration hosted by Providence Preservation Society at the Beatrice Hotel on November 15, 2022. To learn more about this important organization and all of the 2022 winners, please click here.
